Ruggedized Marine Catch Counter


Design

This section gives a very quick overview of the design features of the catch counter.

Physical Design


The premise of the design is a portable scoreboard that can be arranged to store the count of several species of fish. The base of the counter board housing is going to be a 2 foot by 2 foot marine grade aluminum case. The main face of the counter board is divided into 16 squares. Each square has it's own display that will display the count of the species. A sketch of the physical layout is shown below

Electrical Design


The electrical components of the system consist of:
  • MCF52235 microprocessor
  • RFID tag reader
  • Numerical keypad
  • Multiple counter displays
  • MicroSD card interface
  • Battery System
The Functional Block Diagram is seen below which outlines the interconnection of all of the components.

Software Algorithm

The following is a flow chart for the main processor program. The system is initialized with a catalogue of fish ID cards programmed in, meaning that the commonly addressed RFID tag values are pre-programmed as variables used through the program.
